Botany

Botany is the branch of biology that studies autotrophic plant organisms. It is divided into various disciplines that focus on different groups of plants from the perspectives of their classification, morphology, physiology, ecology, geographical distribution and more.

The Museum’s Botany section houses more than one hundred collections of varying size, comprising an estimated total of over 200,000 specimens and spanning more than three centuries. Its activities focus primarily on cataloguing the collections and enhancing their value and accessibility.

Since 2019, the complete digitisation of some collections has been underway, with the aim of making them accessible online and enabling both researchers and a wider audience to consult them remotely.
